In the depths of New England there is a quaint little shop. If you were to walk by it you would wonder how it stays in business. It's run by two young persons you don't see anywhere but this shop, like they are ghosts. You don't think about it too much.
Cameron is the owner. He built this shop from a seed, like many of his flowers. It has a good atmosphere, the little bit of walls you can see are light and pastel and the room brings in a lot of light. To go along with that, there is a songbird, a yellow canary, that sings all day in the light and fragrance. If the shop were a cafe, it would be about 10 times as popular. Above the shop there are living spaces, were Cameron lives. A loft apartment. He even built a little greenhouse in the space they have behind the building, which is filled with plants that the shop sells.

Cameron had been waiting to open the shop for about half an hour. When he realized it was time, checking his watch for the 10th time, he all but jumped up and dropped his book on the desk. He flicked on the rest of the lights and strode to the front door to flip the little handwritten open sign, and sighed. He supposed it was time to wake up Ms Maria.

"Ugh, it's already 7:30," Maria thought to herself with a toothbrush shoved in her mouth. She had woken up rather late today, which pissed her off a bit. She scrambled to get herself ready, and managed to tidy up her appearance in under 5 minutes. She was just finishing putting on her shirt behind the divider when she heard the creak of floorboards and the door opening.

"Oh," Cameron opened the door to notice that Maria was already awake and alive. "You're up rather late," he commented. "Anyways. Shop's open, be down when you can." He said this lightly, before closing the door again, retreating downstairs. He began to do Maria's job of watering the plants, just to help her out.

Maria scrunched up her face and squinted her eyes at the door closing. She felt awful this morning. Maybe having that extra shot wasn't such a brilliant idea after all last night. Oh well, it was the past now. Maria tied her apron and slightly smiled when she freed her little canary from its cage. It perched itself upon its usual place, her bun, and soon enough she was heading down the stairs.

Cameron smiled as and put down the watering can before muttering that he'll be in the back and heading out the back door behind the cash counter, leaving Maria alone in the now open shop. The outside was mild, warmer than yesterday. He unlocked the door to the greenhouse before wandering around the garden, checking the state of the plants. He never had a green thumb, but he taught himself how to tend to plants and flowers. He even had a vegetable and herb garden.

Maria took up watering the plants where Cameron left off. She sprayed the one's overhead though so that the water wouldn't drip onto customers. Looking around, she noticed a few dianthus caryophyllus weren't out on display. She nudged the door open to the back and yelled out "Cameron, the carnations just bloomed didn't they? Bring them out!"

Cameron startled so much by the cry of Maria's voice he almost dropped the scissors he was holding. "I'm right here," he said. He was standing right by the door. He looked down at the flowers once again "Uh, yes, give me a second..."

"Hope you have a pail to put em' in," she gestured nodding her head to the flowers he was holding. With that she disappeared back into the shop to arrange a spot outside for the flowers.

"Ah, shit." He had to go back into the greenhouse to grab the bucket of water he meant to bring with him. The metal thing filled with water was heavy, and he struggled not to spill it. The sky above lightened with time, but it looked as though it was going to rain. Cameron made quick calculations in his mind about his plants. Rain would mean less work today. He liked work, it kept him busy, and without it he was sure he would have written 50 shitty books by now. He finished with the carnations and placed them inside the shop by the door.

Maria had also noticed the sky going slightly grey, so she decided against the flowers to go out. She took them from the door and put them more in the first center display, which is the first thing customers would see when they enter the door. Maria noticed how one of the carnations was leaning funnily, but it wouldn't seem to co-operate with her, no matter how she rearranged it. She plucked it out of the others and put it through her hair, that way it would still be seen by visitors. The canary on her tweeted with its new arrival on top her head.

Cameron had finished the 'Rain Adjustments' as he had come to call it. He brushed off his hands with finality, and re-entered the shop, closing the door tightly behind him. As he replaced his book he'd left on the counter to it's spot leaning on the pot of pens, Javert, the canary currently situated on Maria's bun, fluttered over his shoulder, and tweeted. He turned his head to look at the bird. "Hello," he greeted. The rain outside decided to fall.

"Dammit..." Maria whispered to herself whilst looking out the window. Rain always meant a slow day. She wondered if Ms. Kimberly or Mr. Hudgson would show up. They were frequent buyers, and usually liked to stop by just for a chat. It still occupied her time effectively, so Maria would often look forward to these times. But rain was always a negative factor. Maria started to sweep the ground but spoke aloud, "Well, Cameron, what's it you'll be doin' today? You should really start with those papers you know."

"Oh, right." He hated paperwork. But, as it was for the shop, his pride and joy, he didn't mind. The bird returned to his spot. "It's still a horrible name for a bird." He mentioned this almost everyday. The paperwork was spread across his desk and he took a seat on the taller stool and began to fill it out.

Maria rolled her eyes. "Les Mis was an excellent film, don't pester me," she replied. Javert, the canary, tweeted with her in agreement. It started to fly about to different shelves and sturdy stems of drooping flowers.

Cameron chuckled absently at the statement. The conversation dulled as he delved into his work. In the hours following, only a single customer came. Rain does indeed slow things down.

Maria finished with closing the store at 4:30. She did a full 360 to make sure all the plants were safe. She looked over to Cameron and announced, "Well, I'm out. See you later." She started to head upstairs to the loft to change into something more of her taste.

Cameron stepped down from his stool and raised his hands above his head, stretching. He had been sitting there all day, just working. He wouldn't mind getting out of here. He locked up shop, flipping the sign again, and made his way upstairs.

Just finished slipping on her floral skirt, Maria overlooked her selection of blouses. She stood there pondering in her bra, and heard Cameron come in. "He dresses fairly well I have to admit," Maria thought. Maybe he would have a suggestion? She picked up two choices and held them up next to her, implying to Cameron to pick.

Cameron opened the door, and Maria held up two shirts, he assumed he should pick. He posed comedically, like he was thinking. "Hmm," he mused. "The right one has a better colour....yeah, the right one. Your right."

Throwing the other one back into the fray of piled shirts, Maria slipped on the blouse and buttoned it up. She got out one of her favourite cardigans and completed her look. Even though it was raining outside, the climate was pretty mild so she didn't want to overdress. Anyways, wearing something like this on a dreary day was always a nice mixup.

"You look lovely." Cameron said with finality. He kicked his shoes off and fell ever-so-gracefully into his signature armchair in one of the lighter corners of the loft. "You're going out tonight?" He questioned.

"Obviously," she exaggeratedly replied. Wasn't it obvious? Who would want to be cooped up in a building where you work and live? There was so much more to do beyond the compartment of this loft. Javert chirped boldly, and Maria noticed his water was filled with seeds and some sunken bird feathers. She went to clean it out. "And where shall you be tonight, rich boy?" she called out from the sink.

Cameron sighed. "Here, all on my own." He was joking, perfectly fine on his own. "And which skeezy place will you be off to?"

Maria glared her eyes a squick while placing Javert's now clean water dish back. "Why so interested?" she retorted. "Is someone feelin' a lil' lonely tonight?" she smugly said turning to face Cameron.

"Well I certainly don't want to be cooped up in here all day again..." He didn't know what else to do. Plus it was raining. He was stuck in this zone where he wanted to do something but he sort of just didn't. It was a hard life.

Maria dropped the sass. She could tell this annoying prick was bored out of his mind; kind of like her. She hated it, but she had to sympathize with him. "Ugggggggggggggh," she dragged out, loosely letting her arms fall into a slump. She let out a loud sigh. "Come with me. It'll be more interesting than here, that's for sure." She didn't know really what else to do.

He was close to accepting the offer, but no way was he going to go to a shitty club filled with teenagers and people working their way through a mid life crisis. That's what he thought Maria went to all the time, anyways. He relaxed in his chair again. "No. God no," he rejected, then chuckled a little. "Sorry."

Maria's eyebrow went up. "Excuse me? You're here sittin' on your ass and complaining to me about your shit-for-all problems and I offer you to come with AND THEN YOU SAY NO?" She was a little pissed now. He basically just waited 5 minutes of her life, which was too much for Maria, and then he has the nerve to just blow her off. "Well fuck you. You've bothered me enough now, so either you're coming or not. And I'm not very well going to take no, so get off your ass and get out the door." Maria stomped over to the door, swung it open, and then pointed, waiting annoyed for him to get out.

"Nooooooo," Cameron whined and slid further down his chair. He didn't want to go get his shoes on or walk or do anything.
